... but it will soon become your responsibility to ensure that you are always acting as a fair and accepting individual in society. Someone that stands up to injustices inflicted on not only themselves, but on those around them.

When you find yourself, having to expand your acceptance of others and amending any prejudices you may have previously had about certain groups, it will not only be an amazing, gratifying and freeing feeling...

Accelerated Reader

What else can I be doing to support my child at home?

Your child should continue to read as widely as possible during their time off school.
Students are able to access their AR accounts and take as many reading quizzes as they wish. The teacher will view this activity and provide feedback.

Not all books have got Accelerated Reader tests available online but many do. To see if a book has an AR quiz available, use the website below.

To log on to your child’s AR account from home, use the following link.

There are also a number of websites that offer free learning opportunities for children.
Twinkl is an example of one of these, which is giving parents the opportunity to sign up for a free month. The link can be found below. and enter the code UKTWINKLHELPS

Read Write Inc - Phonics

In addition to the home learning tasks that class teachers will be setting, I would like to notify you with an update regarding phonics. As you may be aware, we teach phonics daily starting in Reception all the way up into Year 2. The Read Write Inc. programme that we use will be scheduling live phonics sessions. Starting from  Monday 23rd March, Read Write Inc. Phonics lessons will be live streamed on Facebook and YouTube for children to watch at home.

There will be three short Speed Sound lessons every day for the next two weeks. The films will only be available at the times below:

  • Set 1 Speed Sounds at 9.30 am and again at 12.30 pm (Reception)
  • Set 2 Speed Sounds at 10.00 am and again at 1.00 pm (Reception and Year 1)
  • Set 3 Speed Sounds at 10.30 am and again at 1.30 pm (Year 1 and Year 2)

Please note: the films will be streamed live and won’t be available at other times.

There will also be a film of a poem for Reception and Year 1 children to join in with at 2.00 pm every day. The poems will be available on YouTube to watch again and again.

A great opportunity for children to learn these by heart!

Parents can sign up to either their Facebook page  or their YouTube channel.

Films for parents

Films for parents to help their child learn to read at home with Read Write Inc. Phonics are available on our website and YouTube channel. The YouTube channel will have a quick face-lift to help parents find the films easily. We’re adding a parent film to Facebook every day too.

These resources will be incredibly useful and will hopefully continue to support the learning of reading that children have been doing in school. Once again, thank you for your continued support with home learning.

Tiddler by the Masons

Emilia says:
We had a lovely weekend at home. We set up the camera and the lights and made a little film of Tiddler. I played Tiddler, Lucas was Johnny Dory and my dad and my godfather filled in the other voices while my mum narrated it. Then we edited it together and put on some music. We sent it to our teachers and they loved it!
Emilia 2A and Lucas 5A

If you’d like to see the Mason family’s dramatic reading of Tiddler, please follow this link where you can view the video. It’s well worth a watch!
